European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece-Bulgaria 2007-2013

On 22nd and 26th of February the towns of Komotini, Greece and Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria were hosts of part of the info days consecution on Market Control Project, funded by Programme “European territorial cooperation Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013”.

The project aims to promote the processes of standardization, certification and market surveillance in the border regions of Bulgaria and Greece and aims to reduce the differences between the regions in terms of effective control of the market. It also aims to enhance the cooperation between the two countries on their way to European integration and to increase the level of market control and protection of manufactured goods.

The project is realized by the Greek International Business Association, Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Greek standardization organization in Thessaloniki and the Rodopi Professional and Handicraft Chamber, Greece, with the financial support of the European Fund for Regional Development of the participating countries.

The info day in Komotini, Greece is organized by the partnership organization – Rodopi Professional and Handicraft Chamber. The meeting was named “Quality Assurance – certification framework in Greece”.

Representatives from all partnership organizations, local business, experts and the media took part in the meeting in Komotini. Results of the conducted project were presented and their reflection on the business in the cross-border region of Greece and Bulgaria, as well with the described need of establishment on common quality conformity mark and common certification body in the cross-border region.

The manager of the of the project by the Greek International Business Association side, Mrs Georgia Kaliakouda, presented the Road map for common quality mark development and common certification and standardisation body in the cross-border region.

The Rodopi region market control was presented by Mr Sotiris Serdenis, representative of Professional and Handicraft Chamber of Rodopi, Greece.

The Greek standardisation organization in Thessaloniki ELOT director, Dr Georgi Bamopoulos, made a presentation on topic “Management systems, conformity marks and laboratory tests: possibilities and realization”. Experts took part in terms of the matters on cross-border quality management, certification bodies and the regional quality marks.

On 26th of February 2013, in Dimitrovgrad Municipality “Groseto” hall an info meeting on topic “Brands and Standards – a guarantee for successful business” was held.

The meeting was opened by the President of Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Yancho Yanev and by the deputy mayor of Dimitrovgrad Municipality, Mr Rosen Kuzev, who both addressed their greetings to the participants.

The accent in the meeting was set on the results from “Testing and European Certification Centre” Ltd broad research on the companies’ needs in Haskovo area with regard to certification, standardization, conformity marks and management systems.

The participants were acquainted with the implementation of management systems possibilities and the market control implementation with regard to conformity marks.

Lawyer Ivanka Pakidanska, representative on industrial property, clarified what does the brand mean and what actions are needed for its preservation.

Mr Aleksandar Lachev, Head of Directorate General Sector “Metrological surveillance” presented the harmonized legislative framework in Bulgaria and Greece with regard to quality standardisation, as prerequisite for successful market experience.

The meeting was of a great interest for the business and that provoked variety of informal discussions after its end.


By the end of the project, two info meetings for the interested parties are predicted, regarding the conducted researches results. These meetings will take place on 4th of March 2013 in Thessaloniki and on 6th of March 2013 in Kardjali.
