European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece-Bulgaria 2007-2013

On 6th of March, Kardjali was host of the final of the consequent info days on Market Control project, funded by “European territorial cooperation Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013” programme.

The project is realized by the Greek International Business Association, Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Greek standardization organization in Thessaloniki and the Rodopi Professional and Handicraft Chamber, Greece, with the financial support of the European Fund for Regional Development of the participating countries.

The project aims to promote the processes of standardization, certification and market surveillance in the border regions of Bulgaria and Greece and aims to reduce the differences between the regions in terms of effective control of the market. It also aims to enhance the cooperation between the two countries on their way to European integration and to increase the level of market control and protection of manufactured goods.

The info day was opened by the President of Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yancho Yanev, who briefly presented the project objectives, the realized within the two years activities and the achieved results.

Greeting to the participants was made by the Deputy Governor of Kardjali, Asen Tiurdiev, who addressed the importance of quality control on the manufactured goods.

The info day was devoted to the marks and standards as a guarantee for successful business.

Lawyer Ivanka Pakidanska, representative on industrial property, explained to the participants what the brand is and what the necessary actions towards its preservation are. The topic provoked broad discussion among the attendees and they asked numerous questions to the participating experts.

The director of Greek Standardisation organization ELOT in Thessaloniki, Dr. Georgi Bamopoulos, took part with presentation on topic “Management systems, conformity marks and laboratory tests: possibilities and realisation”. He acquainted the audience with the voluntary and mandatory standards, incorporated by the European Union in the indication of the products. Dr. Bamopoulos stressed out the weak collaboration between the identical institutions and organizations in Bulgaria and Greece through the years and expressed his satisfaction that he has seen real change in those relationships, induced by the partnership on this project. He pointed out the established beneficial cooperation between the Greek standardization organization and Bulgarian laboratories and certification bodies in the last two years.

The novelties with regard to the standardization in the European legislation were presented by Aleksandar Lachev, Head of Directorate General Sector “Metrological surveillance”. He acquainted the attendees with the harmonized legislative framework in Bulgaria and Greece in terms of quality standardization, as a prerequisite for successful market experience.
All of the participants expressed their satisfaction of the discussed subjects and the need of similar informational meetings, which would help for increasing the knowledge of all interested parties on European requirements and the role of everybody, as consumers, for providing control and strictness to the quality of the offered products and services.
