European Territorial Cooperation Programme Greece-Bulgaria 2007-2013

On 4th of March 2013 in Thessaloniki, Greece an informational meeting on project Market Control, funded by “European territorial cooperation Greece-Bulgaria 2007-2013” programme was conducted.

The project aims to promote the processes of standardization, certification and market surveillance in the border regions of Bulgaria and Greece and also aims to reduce the differences between the regions in terms of effective control of the market. It also aims to enhance the cooperation between the two countries on their way to European integration and to increase the level of market control and protection of manufactured goods.

The project is realized by the Greek International Business Association, Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Greek standardization organization in Thessaloniki and the Rodopi Professional and Handicraft Chamber, Greece, with the financial support of the European Fund for Regional Development of the participating countries.

The info meeting on topic “Commitment to quality – Encouragement of cross-border cooperation and international competitiveness” is organized by the Greek International Business Association in Thessaloniki (SEVE).

The meeting was opened by Teodoros Karaoglu, Minister of the Ministry of Macedonia – Trakia. Greetings to the participants addressed Georgious Emanuil, Manager of Interreg IV – Managing body on the programmes for “European territorial cooperation” and Dr. Anastasios Aleksandridis, executive vice-president of the Greek International Business Association. The meeting was attended by Apostolous Tsisikostas – Governor of Central Macedonia, representatives of all partnership organizations, local business, experts and the media.

During the first plenary session all of the partnership organizations presented their role into the project’s realization. Its main objective and the achieved results were presented by Mrs Georgia Kaliakouda, form SEVE. Also, Georgios Kapetanos form Greek Standardization Organisation ELOT in Thessaloniki, Sotiris Serdenis from Rodopi Professional and Handicraft Chamber and Yancho Yanev from Haskovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry all took part in the discussion. The representatives of the partnership organizations presented the results from the conducted extensive survey on the needs of the enterprises on their territory with regards to certification, standardization, conformity marks and management systems.

The second plenary session was held as a Round table, where the problems of the companies and their best and not so practices were discussed with regard to the quality. Managers form different Greek companies shared their experience of the implementation of quality management systems and the implementation of conformity marks for the manufactured products.
The attendees made a lively discussion on the outlined subjects and marked important steps, which have to be undertaken for establishment of common quality standards of the manufactured commodities by the companies in Haskovo - Rodopi cross-border region, as well with the establishment of common certification body.
